Guide to application of the ATEX 2014/34/UE directive - SPECIFIC MARKING OF EXPLOSION PROTECTION

SPECIFIC MARKING OF EXPLOSION PROTECTION (ex) DRAWN FROM DIRECTIVE 84/47/EEC

The validity of the Commission Directive 84/47/EEC of 16 January 1984 adapting to technical progress Council Directive 79/196/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning electrical equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres employing certain types of protection (OJ L 31, 2.2.1984, p. 19) ended on 1 July 2003, when the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC became applicable; but the description of the ex marking ("the hexagon"), although it has not been retained in the new legislation, remains useful as guidance for manufacturers and all the interested parties.
